A man has been arrested in Northland, accused of forcing a vehicle off the road, stealing cash from the driver, and making them drive to an ATM and withdraw more money.
Whangārei police said the robbery happened on Mangakahia Road in the town of Maungatapere on 14 September.
They said the vehicle was tailgated before it was forced off the road.
Police said the arrest was made this week, and the accused made an initial court appearance in Whangārei.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the Auckland District Court on 8 November.
Detective Inspector Al Symonds said police were aware of a number of similar incidents in the same area being reported on social media, and urged people to come forward.
"Police acknowledge the Maungatapere community are understandably concerned by these incidents," Symonds said.
"If you are the victim of this type of behaviour, please call 111 if it is happening now.
"Additionally, anyone who has experienced this and has not yet been in touch with police, is encouraged to do so by contacting us via our 105 service."
