Labour Party leaders have told an inquiry into the general election that advance voting should start earlier, and that political advertising should be allowed on polling day.
Labour's general secretary Chris Flatt says the existing ban on political advertising and discussion on election day can't last because it will become too hard to control social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Party leaders also say advance polling places should be available earlier than the two and a half weeks prior to 2011's election date.
Parliament's Justice and Electoral Commission heard from political parties and the Electoral Commission today, in an inquiry into last year's election, which has a low voter turnout of just under 70%.
