The number of people visiting New Zealand has surged, hitting a new high for the month of May.
Statistics New Zealand figures show visitor arrivals rose to 153,000 last month, a 9% increase on April.
The number of tourists from overseas rose sharply led by more visitors from Australia and China.
On an annual basis, tourist numbers rose 1% to 2.6 million.
The high New Zealand dollar also prompted a record number of New Zealanders to take trips overseas last month, swelled by people departing on cruise ships.
