The organisers of the Big Day Out in Auckland have announced details of a new music festival for the city in March.

Auckland City Limits will take place across four stages at Western Springs on Saturday March 19 and promoters promise 40 acts that will stretch “across a broad range of musical genres”.

The festival takes after the well-known event Austin City Limits, which launched in 2002 and has grown into a two-weekend event, seeing over 130 acts on their lineup.

The Texas-based event is on early next month and features acts such as Foo Fighters, Drake, The Strokes, Florence and The Machine, The Weeknd and more. Last year’s headliners included Eminem, Pearl Jam, Outkast and Skrillex.

Auckland City Lights is being organised by Campbell Smith’s company CRS, who were behind the Auckland leg of the Big Day Out festival. They’ve partnered with Live Nation and C3 Presents to bring the event to New Zealand.

“We want to produce a live music and festival experience that is memorable and spectacular, that expands the format into what we know people want from a music festival nowadays and that is created and curated solely and specifically for Auckland,” said Smith.

Ticket details aren’t available yet, but fans can sign up for a chance to get $99 early bird tickets here.

The lineup will be announced next month.
