Fiji's Land Force Commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho says the security forces are on top of alleged attempts to form breakaway states in the country.
Dozens of people are before the courts accused of sedition as police investigations continue.
The military has been assisting the police with its own reports and investigations, and Colonel Qiliho says it is not because the police cannot do the job, but that the military has a role to safeguard the country.
"If we have a defined role in the constitution and we sit back in the barracks and not act on it then what's the use of our being there? We are exercising our role as defined in the constitution, and that is the security and well-being of Fiji."
