Opposition hits out at French Polynesia government

16:06 pm on 4 January 2012

The opposition in French Polyensia has castigated the government in its New Year message, accusing it of doing nothing to address the territory's crisis.

The Tahoeraa Huiraatira says the government coffers are empty, debts are no longer honoured and one bank has stopped lending.

It also says hundreds of families have become homeless, and pensions in years to come are no longer guaranteed.

To counter this, it urges support for those who seek to revive a dialogue with France.
