NZ joins global missing child network

New Zealand has joined a global network in the fight against children being abducted or going missing around the world.

The Global Missing Children's Network shares information and photographs of missing children with other police forces worldwide.

Police in New Zealand will enter information about missing children into the database and will receive training that will allow them to take existing pictures of a child and create an image of how they might look when older.

New Zealand has six historical cases of children who have never been found.

Detective Sergeant Linda Simpson says that, as well as being about solving missing child cases, being part of the global network is an opportunity to exchange information on technology, best practice and child safety with other countries.

This the first year of affiliation with the network.
