TeamTalk says its bid to provide enhanced telecommunications services to the Chatham Islands has been accepted by the Government which will provide $2.48 million towards providing a broadband service.
Team Talk says there is also funding available to provide a cellular service.
Managing director David Ware said the job will include shipping 10 tonnes of telecommunications equipment out to the islands and building five cellular and wireless broadband sites.
He said everything will be constructed to withstand some of the most extreme weather conditions anywhere.
