In honour of Samoan Language Week, RNZ Social Media Journalist Faivaeselopepe Anric takes us on a brisk walk through a few phrases that have been repeated over the last few weeks in Samoa concerning its constitutional crisis, where Prime Minister-elect Fiame Naomi Mata'afa and Caretaker Prime Minister Tuila'epa Sailele Malielegaoi are at an impasse as to who will lead the 17th Parliament of Samoa.
Fiame's FAST party, which won the most seats in last month's election, and the previous ruling party, HRPP, are waiting for the Supreme Court to rule on several contentious issues.
FAST had been barred from entering the Parliament building after Tuila'epa, who has been Prime Minister for 23 years and leader of HRPP, which has been ruling party for around four decades, directed the Speaker to lock the doors.
Under the constitution, Parliament must sit within 45 days of an election and yesterday was the last day for this to be possible.
Anric gives us a 'Paloka breakdown' on just what phrases Fiame and Tuila'epa have been throwing around.
