Bougainville makes strides as it prepares for referendum

04:05 am on 18 September 2017

The Bougainville agency charged with preparing the region for a referendum on independence from Papua New Guinea is already looking beyond the vote scheduled for June 2019.

The Department of Peace Agreement Implementation is headed by James Tanis who says the success of the vote will be determined by how peaceful and united Bougainville is five years later.

He spoke with Don Wiseman who began by asking about the significance of the recent signing by the PNG governor general of the Referendum Charter.
