Last ditch talks to avert nurses' strike

The Employment Relations Authority is meeting nurses and district health boards in a last ditch bid to avoid strike action.

Nurses are at an impasse with DHBs over pay and working conditions and have issued formal notice of two 24-hour strikes - one on 5 July and 12 July.

    DHBs say they have contingency plans in place should the talks fail and the strikes go ahead.

    Elective surgery and non-acute procedures will be rescheduled but all emergency and essential services will go ahead.
