Soaring temperatures caused soaring blood pressure for the up to 70 drivers stuck behind a motorist enjoying the sun in Waikato yesterday - at a leisurely 25kmh.
Waikato District Commander Superintendent Bruce Bird said he came across the line of up to 70 vehicles stuck behind a car going 25kmh on State Highway 25 between Waihi and Whangamata.
Mr Bird said when he pulled the driver over and asked about his low speed the man said he was just out enjoying a drive in the sun and had not given much thought about checking his mirrors.
"We always tell people to drive to the conditions and at this time of year one of those conditions is congested highways," he said.
"We ask people to drive in a considerate manner, check your mirrors and where safe, pull over and allow other motorists to pass."
Fast drivers have also been causing headaches in the region; a tourist pulled over on the Waikato Expressway for doing 180kmh thought he was doing only 80kmh, while another driver was caught doing 151km.
Both lost their licences for 28 days.
