A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska but no widespread threat of a tsunami is being forecast.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says the strong earthquake was centered 43 kilometres west of Nikolski in the Aleutian island chain at a depth of 35km.
The centre says, based on historical data, a widespread destructive tsunami threat does not exist.
