A man is seriously injured after his microlight crashed near Oamaru this afternoon.
Police said the 72-year-old from Waimate was in Oamaru Hospital with serious injuries to his leg.
He told police that shortly after taking off from the Oamaru airfield the plane unexpectedly lost power, at about 2.30pm.
He crashed into a hedgerow on a farm in the Papakaio area and emergency services had to free him from the plane.
The Civil Aviation Authority would investigate the cause of the crash.
