Dunedin police were led on a wild goose chase yesterday evening.
Acting Inspector Craig Dinnissen said officers were called to Pinehill Rd yesterday evening after reports of "a grey and white goose found loose".
Despite cornering the foul-mannered waterfowl it evaded officers after it "found a clearing and flew away".
Mr Dinnissen said "alerts have yet to be made for the goose".
But he advised people to "not approach the goose" as it might snap at their hands.
