A student at a high school on Auckland's North Shore - Northcote College - has tested positive for Covid-19.
Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) has notified parents, caregivers and staff that all students and staff are considered close contacts.
According to a letter from ARPHS, the student was at school on Monday and Tuesday this week.
Staff and students were directed to self-isolate at home.
The letter, images of which have been posted to Facebook pages, also says "even if New Zealand's national alert level changes from the current level 4, you must still complete your full, 14-day self-isolation".
It also advises people to get a test and watch for symptoms.
"If you were last at school on August 16, you will need to get tested immediately, and on Saturday 21 August (day 5 test) and on Saturday 28 August (day 12 test).
"If you were last at school on August 17, you will need to get tested immediately, and on Sunday 22 August (day 5 test) and on Sunday 29 August (day 12 test)."
Those were last at school on the 16th could leave self-isolation at the end of 30 August if their tests were negative, the letter said.
For those who were last at school on the 17th, that date was 31 August.
A bus trip to Northcote College on Tuesday morning has been listed by the Ministry of Health as a location of interest.
More locations of interest were added on the ministry's website just before 8pm on Thursday.
