The Indonesian military has sacked the commander in Papua whose soldiers staged a mutiny.
The army says battalion commander, Lieutenant Colonel Lambok Sihotang, was dismissed following rioting by hundreds of soldiers upset over being charged to pay for the funeral of a fellow soldier.
In Wednesday's the incident, the rampaging soldiers left their Sentani base and assaulted civilians and harassed reporters.
The military chief, General Djoko Santoso, sent a top official to Jayapura after discussing the security situation with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The Jakarta Post says those instigating the mutiny will also be sanctioned.
