SH1 at Kawakawa re-opens

A section of Northland road closed for almost a week due to storm damage, has re-opened.

State Highway 1 near Kawakawa in Northland tonight re-opened Friday evening.

The highway, which is the main road link to the far north, has been closed at Maromaku since Saturday when a 70 metre section collapsed during a fierce storm.

During the past week, Transport Agency contractors have created a new detour.

A 30 kilometre per hour limit will remain in place.
