Lions overrun Country boys

05:54 am on 13 June 2013

The British and Irish Lions ran in 10 tries to overwhelm a semi-professional Combined Country side 64-0 in the third match of their Australian rugby tour in Newcastle.

The Welsh winger George North continued his form with two of the tourists' six first-half tries but captain Brian O'Driscoll and coach Warren Gatland were disappointed with just four second half tries.

While the value of such matches is questionable for a team preparing for a test series, the home captain Tim Davidson, who led a side containing a carpenter, plumber and a medical student, thinks they're occasions that provide a vital link fo the game's grassroots in Australia.

The Lions will name a shadow test line-up for Saturday's game against the New South Wales Waratahs.
