A series of incidents this morning has led to a man being shot and killed by police in Kawerau.
Earlier, police said an armed man entered a bank on Fletcher Street just after 9am and left with cash but no one was injured.
A family harm incident this morning involved a person reported to be armed.
Detective Inspector Mark Loper said police were made aware of both incidents this morning.
They located a vehicle believed to be involved and attempted to stop it but the driver fled.
At around 10.20am he was eventually stopped on State Highway 30 and was shot by police.
Detective Inspector Mark Loper said the man was given first aid immediately.
A number of investigations are now underway and police at at the scene and the IPCA have been notified.

The man's family have been notified.
