A major road in the Wellington central business district has been closed following a two-car crash.
The Terrace is closed at the intersection with Aurora Terrace, next to the Beehive. Multiple police cars and ambulances were at the scene.
Police said one person was receiving CPR.
Members of the public told RNZ it was a medical event and a person was pulled from a car.
Jacob Thorpe, who works on The Terrace, said it took him 30 seconds to get a defibrillator to help resuscitate a person in a car.
"There was just a guy grabbing a guy out of a car, who was having a heart attack or a stroke, I'm not too sure."
The person who suffered the medical event was responsive when he left the scene, Thorpe said, but he could not say what state he was in.
He said it took emergency services about eight minutes to arrive.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
