Simon Bridges on Amy Adams: 'I really rate her'

08:27 am on 12 March 2018

New National Party leader Simon Bridges revealed his new-look Opposition line-up to take on the Labour-led coalition government yesterday.

Long serving MPs Gerry Brownlee, Nick Smith and Maggie Barry have slid down the rankings, while there have been promotions for Mark Mitchell, Jami-Lee Ross and Paul Goldsmith.

Judith Collins has been given the housing portfolio - as National aims to send a message to the government.

Mr Bridges denied he was showing the door to Mr Smith, Mr Carter and Mr Brownlee, saying they had all been given serious responsibilities.

However, he said it was time to have some new talent in the front benches.

He told Morning Report there was no doubt about Amy Adams getting the finance portfolio.

"I really rate her, I've seen her up close and personal," he said.

Mr Bridges said her background in commercial law and business made her an ideal candidate.

"She's exactly what I want to see at this time," he said.

Ms Collins was suited to take the housing portfolio because she's "very good at attack", Mr Bridges said. He said KiwiBuild will be a "shambles" and Ms Collins will be the right person to lead the attack on it.
