The Insurance Council is contesting the number of earthquake settlements the Labour Party says are outstanding in Christchurch.
Labour's Earthquake Commission spokesperson Clayton Cosgrove said on Tuesday that there are more than 10,000 earthquake claims yet to be settled.
However, the Insurance Council said the number is 1508. Of the 22,455 claims over $100,000, some 9877 have been completed.
A further 9755 are pending settlement, where an agreement has been reached between the insurer and the claimant.
The council said there are 1508 over-cap, dwelling claims where the insurer has made their customer an offer but no decision has been reached. It expects that some of those will be disputed.
