A country-wide industry code for dating apps is set to come into effect in Australia - intended to help protect users from harm and abuse.

In a world first, apps such as Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Grinder, OK Cupid and other online dating platforms, have agreed to track reports of abusive and violent behavior from users, and collaborate more with law enforcement.

The platforms will have six months to become compliant with the code before it becomes enforceable.

Dr Lisa Portolan is an academic at the University of Technology Sydney who has studied dating apps and is the author of several books including Love, Intimacy and Online Dating: How a Global Pandemic Redefined Intimacy.

Kathryn also speaks with Brent Carey, Chief Executive of Netsafe, who says New Zealand should be following suit.
