An energy company in the Cook Islands has been unable to find the source of a leak in its pipeline in Rarotonga.
The area around Rarotonga's Avatiu wharf has reeked of fuel since last week, with locals concerned about environmental damage.
Pacific Energy said the leak was manageable, and any fuel was contained within booms that had been laid out.
The Cook Islands News reports that excavation work begun yesterday to try and find the source of the leak.
The Cook Islands Ports Authority has apologised to residents and users of the Avatiu wharf.
