Two shot in Timaru, wounded man dropped off at petrol station

Police are investigating after two people were shot in Timaru early on Friday morning.

A man with a gunshot wound was dropped off at a petrol station in the south Canterbury town just before 2am.

A police spokesperson said about the same time, a woman was admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds, believed to be from the same incident.

"A vehicle has been seized and will be examined," police said.

"A scene examination is underway at a motel on Evans Street where the incident is understood to have taken place.

"Police are working to understand what has happened and engage with those involved."
