A whanau spokesperson for the late Ngati Porou leader, Apirana Mahuika, says the style of leadership for the tribe is likely to change.
Mr Mahuika was laid to rest yesterday. He died on Monday.
Huge crowds of people attended his tangi, with people describing him as a man who got things done.
A whanau spokesperson, Te Rau Kupenga, said a question posed at the tangi, was who would take over from Mr Mahuika.
He said Mr Mahuika put a lot of time and effort into the younger generation and laid a safe and secure foundation for Ngati Porou's future.
Mr Kupenga said the style of leadership will probably change with people asking who can fill Mr Mahuika's shoes?
He said he believed there is no one else because Mr Mahuika was a "tipua", he was special and different from everybody else and who would know when his like is seen again?
