More than 2000 dairy farmers have downloaded a new smartphone calving app which helps them record information quickly at calving time.
The MINDA app, by Livestock Improvement Corporation, was launched at the Fieldays in June.
Farm systems manager Rob Ford said the app's been so popular LIC is looking to release another one soon that will allow farmers to access their herd records and important animal details - like history, mating, health, and production while out in the paddock.
Mr Ford said smartphone technology is taking off on-farm and the barrier has always been the robustness of the device in the harsh environment of a dairy farm.
He said the availability of smartphones with a casing around them to protect them from the weather makes it much more applicable to a dairy farm.
Mr Ford said while there are more android phones than i-phones in use - of the 2100 farmers who have downloaded the MINDA app - two-thirds are using i-phones.
