Toxins that can cause paralytic shellfish poisoning have been detected in Tory Channel.
Nelson Marlborough Medical Officer of Health, Dr Ed Kiddle said while algal blooms seem to have been declining since last month, there have not yet been the two clear samples required for the warning to be lifted.
He said people should not eat kina, mussels, pipi, tuatua, oysters or cockles harvested from the affected areas.
Scallops, paua, crab, and crayfish may still be eaten if the gut is completely removed prior to cooking.
