Auckland's five leading mayoral candidates have struggled in a quick-fire quiz testing their knowledge of Māori and South Auckland issues.
None of the five - Mark Thomas, Chloe Swarbrick, Phil Goff, John Palino and Vic Crone - managed to answer the questions put directly to them during a debate hosted for Radio Waatea by Willie Jackson, in Mangere.
Some managed to salvage honour by answering correctly when their rivals struggled.
Here is a selection of the questions put by Mr Jackson - and the answers:
Ms Swarbrick did not know.
Mr Goff did not know - claiming he thinks of her only as a gold medallist.
Mr Palino did not know.
Ms Crone did not know.
Mr Palino did not know but Ms Swarbrick jumped in correctly.
Ms Crone did not know.
Ms Swarbrick did not know but, when prompted, called Ms Salesa "fantastic".
Mr Palino did not know ("I'm the worst when it comes to names").
Ms Crone did not know how many, but said she knew the meaning of Maata Waka.
Mr Palino did not recognise the place name, or know the iwi.
Mr Jackson described the questions as a bit of fun but, on the serious side, said the answers would be known by many of the passers-by on the streets of Mangere.
