Health New Zealand has told Hutt Hospital there is no reason for it to mothball its earthquake-prone tower block in the short term.

The Hutt District Health Board has released advice it's received on the quake-prone building that houses wards, maternity and vital radiology services.

Health NZ told the DHB last month that it should not make any hasty decisions about closing the Heretaunga Block, saying the risk to occupants over the next one to two years is considered low and there is no reason not to keep using it in the short term.

Lower Hutt Mayor Campbell Barry spoke to Susie Ferguson.
