Last year's Melbourne Cup winner, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fiorente, is set to retire after suffering a tendon injury.
The star stayer finished third behind Silent Achiever and It's A Dundeel in the Group One BMW at Rosehill in Sydney on Saturday, but was later found to have the injury.
Fiorente had previously run a disappointing seventh in the Ranvet Stakes a fortnight ago.
Fiorente raced 20 times for six wins - including the Melbourne Cup and this year's Australian Cup - and seven placings, earning $6.5 million in career prizemoney.
He is now expected to begin a stud career.
