Vox pops - Should NZ join the fight against IS?

13:34 pm on 7 November 2014

Three New Zealand Defence Force staff are already in the Middle East scoping out a role training Iraqi soldiers to fight Islamic State, and up to seven more will join them.

Prime Minister John Key says Kiwi troops wouldn’t be used in combat roles, but the SAS could be sent to protect a base where NZ forces are training locals.

Labour has warned that training Iraqi forces is the first step to joining in all-out war, and New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says joining in the fight in any way puts NZ at greater risk from terrorism.

The Wireless asked people on the streets of Wellington whether New Zealand should be joining in the conflict.
