The Canterbury District Health Board has appointed an acting chief executive, and a temporary back-up chief executive, to fill in after the resignation of its chief executive.
David Meates announced last week that he would finish in the role on 4 September.
The board said Dr Andrew Brant, the current acting chief executive of the Waitematā District Health Board, would be acting chief executive in Canterbury while a replacement for Meates was found.
Brant cannot start until October, so in the meantime Dr Peter Bramley, the chief executive of the Nelson Marlborough health board, will work alongside Meates.
Meanwhile, the CDHB has lost a fifth senior executive with the resignation of chief medical officer Dr Sue Nightingale.
This follows the recent resignation of the chief executive, the chief people officer, the planning, funding and decision support executive director and chief financial officer.
Meates said Nightingale will continue to work through until December.
He said this reflects her critical role as the lead for the Covid-19 response and executive lead for service continuity.
