Dunedin accommodation booked out within hours when Sheeran announced he would play the city's covered stadium on 29 March next year.

The concert organisers, Frontier Touring, revealed yesterday he would play a second gig in Auckland.

They announced this afternoon Sheeran would also play a follow-up concert in Dunedin on Saturday, 13 March because of what they were calling overwhelming demand.

They said the now 14-date tour of Australasia equalled the record set by heavy metal band ACDC in 2010 for the most stadium shows on a tour.

A total of 80,000 tickets were expected to be on offer in Dunedin, the largest non-sporting event to be held at the stadium since it opened in 2011.
