The head of the regional Pacific university deported from Fiji this week says the Bainimarama government has the power to revoke his work permit in the country but not his role as vice-chancellor.
Pal Ahluwalia contends that his removal from Fiji was engineered and premeditated by government cronies within the University of the South Pacific whose acts of mismanagement and nepotism were being uncovered under his watch.
He names the pro-chancellor Winston Thompson as heading the cabal.
Professor Ahluwalia spoke with Dominic Godfrey and says by attempting to remove him from office the Fiji government is trying to unilaterally dictate orders to an institution which is owned by the region.
