RECAP: NZX opens after wild US trading

10:12 am on 7 February 2018

New Zealand's sharemarket has immediately fallen two percent after opening after the Waitangi Day closure.

Global markets have been left reeling in the biggest one-day fall on Wall Street since 2011.

The Kiwi sharemarket is expected to fall, but market analysts say investors should not panic.

US stock markets swung rapidly in early trading on Tuesday (Wednesday morning NZ time) amid frantic Wall Street trading triggered by earlier losses.
