Auckland Transport is warning residents about a possible scam involving the city's new travel card.

It says a Papatoetoe couple were approached by three people going door-to-door claiming to be Auckland Transport representatives.

The couple were offered electronic A-T-Hop cards for $20.

They filled in a fake application form and were told the cards would be posted to them.

Auckland Transport says it does not sell cards door-to-door and is asking anyone who has been approached to contact it immediately.

The police are also investigating.
