The largest bus operator in New Zealand is ordering 120 new buses for its services in Auckland.
British bus builder Alexander Dennis Ltd on Wednesday announced it had secured a deal with NZ Bus to supply the components in kits.
It said the buses will be pre-fabricated in Scotland and assembled by the Kiwi Bus Builders company, at a new plant in Tauranga.
The order is worth more than £25 million ($NZ51 million). Each bus can carry up to 55 passengers.
NZ Bus chief executive Bruce Emson says the order is the biggest investment made by the business since it was acquired by Infratil in 2005.
The first sections are expected to arrive in Tauranga in late March - early April.
Mr Emson told Summer Report the company hopes a number will be in service in Auckland by the start of the Rugby World Cup.
ADL says the rest will be progressively introduced over the following 12 months.
Kiwi Bus Builders currently employs 110 people. The contract will create about 60 new jobs.
NZ Bus operates in Auckland, Wellington and Whangarei.
