The replacement Interislander ferry has broken down less than a week into service.
The Stena Alegra went into operation on Monday, replacing the ferry Aratere which lost its propeller while sailing from Picton.
InterIslander general manager Thomas Davis said the ship left berth at about 4:30am on Friday but there was an issue with the engines and a partial power failure.
