Davis' playoff penalty gifts Furyk win

18:50 pm on 19 April 2010

The English golfer Brian Davis called a two-stroke penalty on himself to give Jim Furyk a victory at the US PGA Tour's Heritage tournament in South Carolina.

Davis forced a sudden-death play-off but his approach shot at the first extra hole rolled off the green of Harbour Town's lighthouse hole and into some rocks.

As he tried to chip on, his wedge moved a loose impediment so he called for a rules official, who checked the replay and confirmed the penalty.

Furyk shot a 69 to finish at 13-under 271 for his 15th PGA Tour win.

There was a disappointing finish for New Zealand's Tim Wilkinson who dropped two shots at the 16th hole t finish five under in a tie for 22nd.
