Reports from Papua New Guinea say four people have been shot, one fatally, after an attempted robbery at a Moresby fish market yesterday afternoon.
The Post Courier reported Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko was at the scene.
Mr Tkatchenko told the paper four men arrived at the Koki fish market late afternoon in a dinghy and started to follow a couple, described as Asian, who were buying fish at the market.
He said the men attempted to rob the couple and steal their vehicle and a shootout ensued when police intervened.
Mr Tkatchenko said the incident will serve as a lesson for "rascals" who wanted to try their luck in Moresby South.
