A man has been taken to hospital with moderate injuries after an accident at the Pike River mine site on the West Coast.
Emergency services were called to the mine at about 9am.
WorkSafe said the man was working on a shed just inside the gates to the site - about 9km from the mine - when a part of the structure fell on him.
A police spokeswoman said a rescue helicopter was unable to reach the mine due to bad weather and the man was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
A St John spokesman said the man, who is in his 30s, had been transported to Grey Base Hospital with moderate injuries.
A WorkSafe inspector is on the way to the mine to make preliminary investigations.
In 2010, a series of explosions at the Pike River mine left 29 men dead.
