The lawyer Mai Chen says there is a rising tide of discrimination against Chinese investors and students in this country.
She made the comment at a panel on the future of NZ-China relations in Auckland this morning.
Ms Chen said New Zealand's relationship with China was extremely valuable.
She said this country has been fortunate to have so many foreign students and investors wanting to come here.
But she said the future of that depended on how they were treated.
Ms Chen said her Chinese clients always asked her if they would be treated fairly in New Zealand before they invested.
