There has been a sharp drop in support for Labour and leader Jacinda Ardern in the latest political poll.

Newshub Reid Research has Labour at just over 32 percent, down nearly six points since its last poll in April.

Labour's result - more than seven points behind National - up slightly to 40 percent, is the lowest result in this poll since Ardern took over as leader in 2017.

ACT and the Greens have both picked up some support - between them ACT and National would have the seats to govern.

As preferred Prime Minister, Ardern has dropped about 6.5 points to just under 30 percent; National's Christopher Luxon is down a few points to 21.5 percent.

The poll was done between 25 October and 3 November, with a margin of error of 3.1 percent.
