BP on Tuesday dropped the retail price of petrol by three cents per litre.
The retail price of a litre of 91 octane is now $2.17.9. Other major fuel retailers are yet to follow suit.
BP said the move was prompted by nervousness in global markets and the buoyant New Zealand dollar, which shrugged off a brief bout of weakness in the wake of the Fonterra botulism scare.
