Vanuatu opposition claims ministers unconstitutional

21:04 pm on 8 December 2015

Former opposition MPs in Vanuatu say the Prime Minister Sato Kilman has breached the constitution by appointing new state ministers after Parliament was dissolved.

The opposition camp say Article 42 of the constitution is clear that only members of parliament can be appointed as ministers.

The former MPs say at the time Samson Samsen and Havo Moli signed ministerial oaths as Minister of Youth Development and Foreign Minister they were no longer MPs.

The former opposition MPs are calling on the Prime Minister and the State Law Office to justify the appointments.

The Vanuatu Parliament was dissolved on November 24 and an election has been set down for January 22.
