The Invercargill City Council's plans to restore trust and confidence in its ability to govern is likely to cost ratepayers tens of thousands of dollars.

Last month, rising tensions between councillors and the chief executive forced the Department of Internal Affairs to begin investigating whether the Local Government Minister needs to step in.

The Department is now scrutinising the council's work closely.

From 9am, the council will hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss their plan to resolve the conflict.
