A number of Pacific island leaders are converging on Japan for the 7th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting.

The meeting is billed as an opportunity to strengthen trade and cultural exchange between Japan and its partners around the Pacific.
The PALM7 Summit will be co-chaired by Japan's Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, and President Tommy Remengesau of Palau.
Papua New Guinea's Peter O'Neill said that part of the meeting would take place in Fukushima, an area devastated by an earthquake and tsunami four years ago.
Mr O'Neill said that PNG had a similar disaster in the Aitape tsunami in 1998, and has had a recent string of large earthquakes, so the two countries can share information and experiences.
Other Pacific leaders in Japan include Fiji's Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, who has met with Shinzo Abe, telling him that Japan must deal with Fiji "in a more open and direct manner - and with a greater appreciation of its position."
