Council still has consent work to do

22:21 pm on 5 August 2014

The Christchurch City Council is still falling short of the standards required to regain its building consenting authority.

In July 2013, the council was stripped of its consenting authority, following its slow handling of post-earthquake building consent applications.

International Accreditation New Zealand assessed the council's processes in July this year. It released the results on Tuesday, saying there are 18 areas of the consenting department that the council needs to improve.

Building and Construction Minister Nick Smith said the council should be consenting before the end of the year.
